Finally tried this spot on my way to work. The food was great and what I expected. Price was fair. The service was on point and the food was ready very quickly. I will definitely be back.

Sorry, think twice before eating here. I had a Cheeseburger meal and my wife had French Toast with Hash Browns. Following our regretful meals, we visited the Fish Store and that is when I started to fell sick to stomach - I rushed home to vomit. Honest review, please read my other reviews if needed.

A solid 3.5 stars. A great spot for breakfast, sitting at the counter, watching the old fashioned diner waitresses scooping up butter for huge pancakes. This is a no frills throwback neighborhood diner serving up steak n eggs, pot roast, chicken n dumplin's, etc. Nothing bad, nothing too special. Great service, smiling staff, good portions but not cheap. For the best bang for your breakfast buck, I still prefer Papa Z's, but you don't wait in line for service here at Magnolia.

I honestly can't believe how long this place has been around! I went here once and it wasn't bad but it wasn't anything to write home about haha so because of that I was never eager to go back. the food is okay, not good and definitely not great, but if you're hungry, it'll do.

If your ballin on a budget for breakfast this place is the way to go. I wasn't around in the 70s but this place looks just like those dinners you see in the tv shows from that era. It's cozy and homey. Feels like its stuck in time. The food is cheap and great for what you pay. I also like the variety on the menu. Everything under the sun and the have a lot of specials that come with salads or soup. Nothing fancy here just a quick place to dine and get a taste of nostalgia.

Perfect neighborhood cafe that serves breakfast anytime. Has "Sunset Dinner" specials from 3pm-6pm daily. Includes soup or salad and a dessert. Cozy, very friendly staff, and home cooked food. Easy on the stomach for people with diet restrictions, meaning not spicy. Been coming here for years.

My second time having breakfast here. OMG, omelet is soo fluffy and yummy! I had the California minus the bacon with extra veggies. Service is ok, but hey. I'm here for the food

This restaurant never disappoints!! The staff is excellent and fast, and the food is great! Portions are hefty. Price is very reasonable. There's a family feel to this place that is very comfortable.

I went there for breakfast right after some eye surgery. Nothing so overtop, standard bfast fare, but I saw all of the staff smiling and it really made a difference in our experience, well done.

This a great place to enjoy the old school diner menu and atmosphere. Awesome waitresses and good food. You should put this on your must visit list. It takes me back to my childhood and hanging out with my grandparents at Sambo's. They have awesome specials that all come with a great choice of deserts.

This place is a poor mans Norms except its not for a poor man since its more expenseive then Norms. I really was rooting for this place but its just mediocre. Waitreses always seemed to be arguing or fighting. I understand spanish so I made out what they were saying. It happened every time I went. Omlette was just ok and the biscuits and gravy are also just bland. I once asked for a side and she took out some hamburger buns and just put gravey on them!!!!! REALLY!!!!! That was the last time I went there.

Took the day off but still up early so I decided to go eat breakfast. I decided to try this place since the pics looked good. The special today was chicken fried steak, eggs with hash browns accompanied by biscuits and gravy. Yammers! The hash browns were a little greasy and the chicken fried steak was small but tasty. The gravy was pretty darn close to moms cooking. Yes I will be back to try more!

3.5 place. Tried the French toast, pretty average. The California omelette was good. About $10 to $12 for entrees. Service was very good. Plenty of parking in the big lot. Old style restaurant, will feel like going back in a time machine!

I like the home feel to this place. the biscuts and gravy remind me of my moms. Love this place

  • Clark T.

Wife and I ate there yesterday for the first time. Great atmosphere, nice staff, very organized and the food was good. Had hash and eggs so there wasn't much chance of screwing that up. The place did have a 50s feel to it which I liked...... We felt like we just found a new place to go after church on Sunday!

  • Debra B.

I had my hot turkey as my usual. It was still very good. I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the bathroom. And the service still is not as attentive as I would like.

  • Kyle R.

Came in looked at menu ordered to go cause was in rush, saw chicken fried steak and eggs 6.50, get my food and rings me up to 11 bucks, I'm like what in the world lady? She says it's more to order to go! Never heard of something so crazy, I pay whatever I'm hungry but def won't be coming back! Place robs people and food is horrible, muffin burned with no barely butter, hash browns barely even with any color, eggs are like rubber, who knows what this gravy is! Don't come to a place like this, I usually go fantastics by Boeing for work and gonna stick to that place!

  • Uyen P.

Best countryfried chicken steak and eggs. Not too much batter. Not too salty. And not greasy. And their apple pie a la mode is the bomb! The crust is the best!!!!

  • Tammy G.

I feel like Granny is back there making my dinner....or breakfast....or lunch. THAT is why I like this place so much. A nice variety on the menu of home cooked - down home food. A very reasonably priced diner that never disappoints. When you get to missing mom and grandma....just come in and eat some meatloaf, or pot roast, and pie!

    (4)
  • Mike K.

This place has gone downhill of late. They charge extra for everything! Food is so so. Short and sweet is that there are much better choices close by. I wont be back

  • Stas O.

Lets just says that this place is a little better than dennys! NOT BY MUCH! I ordered the steak and eggs, price was good, but the steak was not cooked to how I asked. The eggs were eggs... You cant really make those wrong! The OJ was A OK. But that was that. I would not be coming back to this place for Breakfast!

great for breakfast and awesome value... lunch is okay and dinner leaves something to be desired unfortunately. for that i think a solid 3stars is appropriate.

Excellent breakfast and fast service. Ate there for dinner and wasn't too impressed. Lots of gray haired people here

  • Gabriel J.

Geriatric is the exact word to describe this place. Thankfully the parking spots in the lot are ENORMOUS so that Grandma can pull her giant Crown Victoria into the spot, and get out without slamming her door into the next person's vehicle. I think everyone from Guadaloupe Manor, the retirement home next door, come here for every meal. Anything other than breakfast is repulsive. It smells like old folks. The waitress, a cute Latina, is very friendly. They sell Snickers at the cash register... strange but whatever. The muffins are tasty.

Ate breakfast here this morning with my Pop. Food was very good and priced right. I had the Denver omelet with hash-browns and biscuits & gravy. Really liked the gravy, not too spicy like most and came with plenty of biscuits. This was just a side that came with the meal! So lots of food. Pop had the sirloin steak and eggs breakfast special and it was perfect for him. As a very salt-sensitive senior, he was very, very glad that this place did not put a bunch of seasonings on his meal. A person can always add salt and pepper if they need to. I am not salt sensitive and found my meal very tasty. So, I've only been there once (on a sunny day), but I think this place has good grub and we had good service and will be back.

COME FOR BREAKFAST!! Order the #5 Breakfast Special. It comes with a waffle, eggs, and your choice of bacon or eggs. It's only 4.49, and with a cup of coffee you're all set! The waffle is AMAZING, it melts in your mouth, and is cooked to perfection. I come here at least once a week. Its location is ideal - right off the 405 on Magnolia.

I had absolutely no problems at Magnolia Cafe. In fact, the omelette was loaded with avocado (and less grease-y than, say, Denny's); the coffee (of the delightfully simple cafe coffee variety) was overflowing. Good service, plain, homey atmosphere, and solid cafe food. I'll be back.

  • Kendo U.

The BLT sandwich here is done better than most. Also their corned beef & hash and eggs and their chicken fried steak & eggs are very tasty as well. Edit 8/12/07 Had breakfast here with my wife Emily, and new Yelp buddy Duong N with his wife Patty. Sorry about my bland yawnfest of a review earlier. I think it was my first day on Yelp and I was a bit review-trigger happy... lol... Anyways, back to the eats. Sure, there are a lot of competent cafes in the area that serve up breakfast, most with passable chicken fried steak & eggs. Why does this place stand out? They serve grits. And I loves me some grits. A little salt, a little butter, and Mmmmm. Goes perfect with the eggs sunny side up, and the chicken fried steak with southern gravy. I have to ignore my CFS cravings most of the time (the dish isn't too cholesterol friendly... but every now and then... ya gotta indulge. =)

Magnolia Cafe has great home cooked meals. The pork chops is one of my favorites. The breakfast are good as well and they have cheap breakfast specials The monte cristo sandwich is excellent and the club is always tasty. The dinner specials are great!! They come with salad your choice of bread( dinner roll, cornbread, or garlic toast) and dessert( jello, pudding, or ice cream) All for $7.99!! Check this place out!!!

I had to go to Joann's Fabrics for my Halloween costume (Yes this review is way past due). Had breakfast w. the bf. It seem like everyone in there were regulars and okay with the old diner style decorations. We had breakfast. Overall the food was pretty yummy but I didn't feel well afterward.

The are a few places around the neighborhood to eat breakfast. One of which boasts a visit from the famous visit form Guy Fieri of "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. I'm not so sure about this Guy. Anyway, after being a long term loyal customer of Magnolia Cafe, we decided to check out the competition. After it was all said and done we were back at Magnolia Cafe. They really just do everything right! The place is very clean, very friendly, you see the same faces everyday. And when you order something specially; like your hash browns crispy, that's exactly how you get them. they are fast and very reasonably priced. Check out the daily specials. you can get a good old standard breakfast of 2 eggs (anyway), hash browns, bacon, toast and a drink for about five bucks.

I haven't been to this place in years and returned to try it again for this review. The place is diner that seems to has a loyal following of locals and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner specials. I got the chicken and dumplings lunch special. It came with a nice sized salad for starters and a larger than expected boat shaped bowl with 3 huge dumplings, big pieces of chicken, carrots and other veggies. The chicken gravy clearly was from a can, but still good. I wouldn't call it home cooking, but for the price it was a good deal. So, good food, friendly staff and good lunch specials. 3.5 Stars.

I've been coming here since we moved to f.v which is about 15 years ago .. Everyone working here knows pretty much my entire family .. There sweet , well mannered and have yummy food . It is a diner ... So don't expect 100$ food for the price of 8.00$ .. It's common sense people . It's a mom and pops place .. I hate how there's people saying here that there snobby about breakfast and yada yada .. You know what your walking into ... You know what kind of food there going to prepare .. It's common sense ... It's pretty much your average American food ... Pretty inexpensive .. And a mellow atmosphere .. That's why people come here ... You feel like your at home . So if your looking for some fancy snazzy restaurant ... And your a complete and utter snob .. I suggest not even putting a foot into this restaurant .

Was a bit disappointed with my Chorizo omelet because it was dry and potatoes were not seasoned. Maybe I will try something different and give it another try

Came in with the girlfriend for lunch. I ordered a number 5 breakfast combo, which included 2 sausages, 2 eggs, and a waffle. Everything was standard and the waffles were oversized. I also got a cup of coffee. My girlfriend got a similar breakfast combo but with pancakes instead. She also got a side of tomatoes. For both of us, our total was only $12.95. Very inexpensive. The breakfast combos range from $4-9. You get a lot of food for very little money. The food is just alright though.

Came here for breakfast! Exactly what I was looking for in a cafe! Delicious food!! Good service! Big portions!

  • Elizabeth H.

I don't think there's anything quite special about the food here, other than that the Monte Cristo is probably the best I've found in this area. Really good. Otherwise it's your average mom and pop diner. Definitely beats Denny's though.

    (3)
  • ChrisTina Y.

Then coming here for over 20 years. The food has always been consistent and tasteful. The Monte Cristo is the best anywhere. And you always get great service.

When I'm visiting my fam this is our goto breakfast place. I like diners and it's a local diner in all respects. You can tell they have a lot of loyal customers since the servers seem to recognize most of the patrons. Like some other reviewers have mentioned there are a lot of older people that eat here. I think they walk from the retirement center that's next door. I've only had the breakfast here so I can't say much about the lunch or dinner. I think the breakfast food is pretty average, but they have weekday specials that are reallie cheap. There's also a large number of specials which is nice (hotcakes, french toast, omelets). Ok so the food is ok. Why is it 4 stars then? Service and speed. I admit I'm a bit biased. The servers recognize my dad when he goes in, seat him right away, and know his regular order. They're always topping off our coffee and the food comes fast. How else can we sneak a breakfast in before he takes off for work? It's also cheap which makes him happy. You won't leave hungry either.

I love this place! I've been going to this place for over 20 years. I still get the Monte Cristo because of two reasons. 1. It is hard to find places that have it, so when I see it on a menu I have to get it. 2. There Cristo is so awesome I would be a fool to pass it up while here! The cast and crew that run this place are always super friendly. The majority of people that come here are seniors, but that is no reason to not go here. They can be just as friendly as the staff.. Been going here for over 20 years, and plan to go another 20.

I don't get why the high ratings for this joint. Paul's Coffee was closed for repairs, so looked this restaurant up. Food was ok but not for the prices they charge. Portions were not that big. Overall, breakfast here will do in a pinch...

  • Jack H.

I thought I had found another good dining restaurant. Unfortunately I didn't. Service, friendliness, and overall value is five stars. However the food is another matter. I missed out on Corn Beef and Cabbage yesterday. They had it on their menu for today. Soup was extremely salty. Main dish was overall OK. It included dessert. While the waitress put on a generous amount of whipped cream with a shape resembling a phallus, however the Jello underneath had way too much sugar. The restroom needed a good mopping. I had two waitresses trying to take my order. The first one ended up being my waitress and her tight fitting slacks added to the overall pleasure of my visit. Consequently that was worth one extra star - especially having made the whipped cream stand up - pun intended.

Good food. HUGE portions. Lots of old people...haha. I usually NEVER eat alone, but I decided to have breakfast here one morning and just people watch. Lots of old people...they're great for story telling time though, I suppose. The Monte Cristo was to DIE for. All the food in here is awesome. I haven't had anything I didn't like in here at all. The service is great and the prices are pretty great too...totally worth the money. I am a definite lover of Magnolia Cafe and would gladly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

  • Rod B.

i really wanted to like this place more. my old business class professor always raved about it, so maybe my expectations were a little high? maybe i'll try the monte cristo like others here have tried and liked and i'll update my rating. i liked the staff; friendly. the food was just ok.

I come here often when I feel like soup and salad. They have a good vegetable soup, garlic toast (or cornbread), and salad combo. They also have other classic favorites like pot roast and great breakfast. My favorite is their kielbasa sausage scramble with country gravy and potatoes! It's so good and enough for 2 or 3 people to share. The servers are always nice, especially Jan. If you are looking for fancy, this is not the place, but it's a great neighborhood cafe. Also, expect to see many elderly people dining here since there is a senior living community right behind it, but I don't mind old people :)

I visited the Magnolia Cafe for the first time in more than15 years on Sunday, December 9th, 2012. I used to visit this place with my mom when I was in my teens, and still living at home. GOOD POINTS: If you like a home town atmosphere and don't like to wait in long lines, then this is the place for you. The food is basically a good, simple menu, with nothing fancy at all. Also, if you're looking for a place to eat brunch after church on Sunday, most places that serve breakfast have a 45 minute waiting period. Here, we waited about 4 minutes. The only other places with short waiting times are the "greasy spoon" variety that I choose to stay away from. BAD POINTS: Years ago, this used to be a very reasonably-priced, economical, local place to eat. Now, this has changed. During my last visit, I paid $30.16 for 1 serving of blueberry pancakes, 2 servings of French toast, some hash browns, and 2 cups of orange juice. Management has decided that they now want to charge IHOP prices, but folks, this place definitely ISN'T IHOP. $30 bucks for some pancakes???? SUMMARY: Still the same "down home" atmosphere and short waiting time, but significantly higher prices for average food.

If it makes you feel better Magnolia Cafe, I am a bit of a breakfast snob. This place is just like any other breakfast place around: lots of regulars, mediocre coffe, and the normal spread of omelettes and hollandaise smeared items. I mean, I have nothing against mediocre coffee and regular breakfast items but at ridiculously high prices?! No thank you. I took my dad here once because he's older and I know what kinds of foods he likes, but we were both surprised at the high prices. It's not the worst I've ever seen, but I usually pay those kinds of prices at little boutique breakfast joints with fancy morning cocktails like pumpkin bellinis... not a dive-y diner! Oh well. The food wasn't bad, our waitress was charming. It plays its role. It's just not for me.

Ok so this is our local go to breakfast place. They are open all day but for us their forte is the breakfast fare. Portions are good sized. The breakfast specials are a great value. Good selection. Waitresses are attentive and never have a tude. Kinda funny we have only eaten here for dinner once that I can remember. Maybe a handful of times for lunch. I have been a weekly customer since 1986 or so but the place has been here since 77 I think. As a kid it has always been here but the name changed once a very long time ago. So give em a try. My favorite breakfast dish is Joes San Fran Special give it a try!

Breakfast here during the week, is very cheap! Its still not bad on the weekends, either though. I love their chicken fried steak breakfast. I have only had breakfast here, not lunch or dinner. The coffee is good, and Im hard to please with coffee. A lot of regulars here, and they are usually nice and quick with their service.

Friend: "Yeah I won't be coming back here." Me: "Nope, me either." Those were our sentiments (verbatim) after my friend and I left the establishment. My friend and I came here because we are from the area, and are always hearing THINGS about this place. We were both unsure of whether or not they were GOOD THINGS that we were hearing about this place. Our memory didn't serve us right. We just remembered that we have HEARD THINGS. But we figured, hey, since it was a popular name that we have heard many times.. and it has a review of 3.5 stars (not SO BAD.. and we were desperate), we decided to come to this place. Bad decision. He ordered: Ribeye Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Garlic Toast His steak was thin.. it looked more unappetizing than most steaks I've ever seen. Mashed potatoes he said were bland. I'm sure it came with vegetables of some sort. I ordered: Turkey Salad Sandwich with Fries My verdict: Sour, salty, and very soggy. Fries (which I assume should be good.. how can you really go wrong with fries?) were tough and unsatisfying. Portions were small too. More conversational tidbits: Me: Can I try some of your toast? (It looked good) Him: Yea. But trust me, it doesn't taste as good as it looks. He was right. The garlic toast was toasted looking, but in actuality soft and bland. It was a disappointment. Him (on his steak): "This tastes.. charcoaly.." (I'm sure that this was not deliberate on the chef's part) Overall, it was not just a mediocre experience, but perhaps an experience that would deserve negative points. The food was horrible. I left hungrier than I was when I entered the place.. with my stomach yearning for something better to eat to wash out the bad taste in my mouth after having a taste of the sour, acidic turkey salad sandwich. Last but not least... this place is so dreary.. I've worked at a retirement home before and it's much happier in comparison. Expect to come and be shocked by the placid faces and dreary atmosphere that this place has to offer... Also, the place is eerily quiet, as we could hear conversations going on from across the room. Which was a terrible thing in our case since the woman whose conversation we were overhearing had the most hideous laugh..

This has been a local neighborhood cafe for many years. It is a decent place to get a decent meal for decent price. I don't understand how people can give this place 5 stars when I believe a 5 star review is the absolute cream of the crop. This place is not the cream of the crop, but it is not the bottom of the barrel either. I have been to this cafe twice. Once during the week with some friends and once with with my wife over the weekend. The first time I was here during the week. I was very surprised at the great weekday specials they had to offer. Chicken Fried Steak with House Potatoes that is usually about $8 is now $5 and change! So kudos for the great weekly specials! However, although the food is inexpensive during the week, I don't think that I would be willing to pay full price again as I did with my wife over the weekend. The second time I went, I had their Eggs Benedict with hash browns. So regarding the food, it is very plain. There are no surprises about their meals, good or bad. The food is what it is. For me, it felt that the food was under seasoned. Just a little salt or some kind of seasoning would really help. Also, their coffee simply tastes watered down. I am an avid coffee drinker and this was not coffee. It tasted as if they were trying to save coffee beans by only using half of the suggested serving size. My wife had eggs done over easy with some sausage and hash browns. First off her eggs were under cooked. The egg whites were still very raw and runny. Also, her hash brown were flavorless. Burnt on the outside and still a bit raw on the inside. Also, the day my wife and I ate at the Magnolia Cafe, it was raining...ON THE INSIDE OF THE RESTAURANT! They had the biggest leak over one of their booths that we were sitting next to. It just made me feel a bit ill eating while listening to the ceiling drip and seeing other discoloration from previous water damage. Lastly, our waitress lost my wife's credit card when we were paying for our meal. My wife and I must have been waiting for 10-15 minutes for her to figure out what she did with our ticket and our card. I have to say, this is the first time in my life that a server misplace my credit card. I will probably not be back for a while until these guys seriously get their act together.

The place to go for a retro family diner vibe. The hubs & I pop in for breakfast now & then. My favorite is their Belgian waffle combo... the fluffiest waffles around =] One oddity... although very clean, the restrooms are... strange.

We skipped Paul's Coffee Shop (DD&D gave them a kick in biz even til this day!) since they always have a line (even in the rain) and went here for the same grub and no wait. Ok food. Prices ok. Had the SF special. kinda bland - but nothing some Tapatio couldn't fix - was spinach and beef omelet- light but filling- my buddy had steak and eggs (good)- Total w/ coffee was $24 and my coffee cup was NEVER empty- ask for the corned beef hash cause it's not in the menu. Overall it's like stepping back in time to the 80s-FLASHBACK- I would say its not too bad a place and the portions were decent, but it relies on local clientele to stay in business. Should have tried Mel's down the street.. Dunno... maybe MickeyD's?

  • James H.

Took one look at their breakfast prices and promptly exited the building. $8.29 for a Denver Omelette??? Everybody, listen up. Go to Harry's Cafe at Bolsa and Springdale or at Chapman and Beach, get a Denver omelette (3 eggs) for $4.99, including toast and a huge portion of home fries, hashed browns or French Fries. If you support this kind of overcharging by giving Magnolia Cafe your business, then you're part of the problem.

Why such good reviews? This place has earned a 1 star in my book, and here's why: Me and 3 friends dined here last night and each of us were very dissatisfied with our meal. We were there for dinner and here is what we ordered: Chicken Parmigiana (my order) - Microwaved chicken breast with way over cooked pasta from yesterday, covered in canned spaghetti sauce with a slice of cheese (not sure exactly what kind), and parmesan cheese sprinkkled on top. This dish made me sick.. Center Cut Pork Chop - It was not "Center Cut". Enough said. Meat Loaf - Very bland and dry... with canned veggies.. Chicken Fried Steak - Small and thin. Looked like it came out of the freezer and microwaved! Breakfast should be o.k.. How can u mess up pancakes and eggs?

For a small Mom & Pop kind of place, service is excellent & the food makes your tummy happy....especially their Liver & Onions! Our waitress, Maribel, is a delight - very friendly, helpful & attentive. She models great Guest Service!! So why the 5 stars? It may not be fine dining but the 5 stars is for the overall simple pallette pleasures & content feeling I get every time I leave this place.

  • Becca A.

Why such bad reviews? If you want great food and at a cheap price...this is it. You can expect a 5 star hotel but for a quick place to grab a bite its well worth it. We ordered the chinese chicken salad, my bf ordered the chicken fingers, and we had the split pea soup. The soup was great! and the food was really good too. It tastes like good old home cooked food. I definitely enjoyed it and will be coming back! the waitress said the breakfast items are great and so is the garlic bread...2 reasons to give it another try!

Pretty average breakfast spot. I've been here a couple of times with my fiance. Waffles are good. Eggs & bacon are one of my indicators of whether or not a breakfast place is *special* or not and this place usually overcooks them both--I would say 85% of breakfast places do this, so its not unusual. I really wanted to try their chicken and dumplings last time I was there, but the waitress rejected me. Apparently they were only available at a certain time of day & I was an hour late, or something like that. Instead I ordered the country fried steak, which is one of my favorite things ever if done right. It was just okay here. The breading lacked seasoning, I think. So did the country gravy. It was a bit tasteless, which is a bit disappointed considering you're eating a deep fried red meat dish covered in gravy...If your gonna eat something that unhealthy, you at least make it worth your while. That's probably why I thought this place was just "meh." After our first couple of visits, my fiance found other spots we liked more than this place, so we haven't been back again yet. We might give it another go sometime.

REPORT CARD: SERVICE: 1/5 FOOD: 1.5/5 PRICE: 4/5 AMBIANCE: 1/5 PARKING: 5/5 LOCATION: 4/5 CLEANLINESS: 2/5 Overall: 2/5 Why am I rating this place 1/5? Granny & Grandpa joint. Ambiance was horrible and service was even worse. We were seated and waited 20 minutes before our orders were taken, because our waitress was so focused on the other older customers. Took another 15-20 minutes for out food to come out, and took 5 minutes for us to receive our check. Food was very bland and not salty enough, didn't have much flavor and some parts were burnt. Why would you serve even slightly burnt food? I will mos-def not be returning here ever again. If you are 55+, give it a try, if you're on a budget, you can't be picky so come here, BUT if you're looking for quality food at a great price.... search elsewhere. There crappy service only makes everything worse.

Great breakfast specials, friendly staff, quick service and food. I get feeling breakfast is their thing as I am not sure how good they are for lunch and dinner (guessing not that great).

Seems like an appropriate family Sunday brunch place to be. Do you concur? Because I concur. At point of entry, you can tell that this thriving restaurant has an established base of patrons that frequent this spot. It sounds promising and I was excited. The service is ok. The lady works hard enough to keep her tables satisfied. It's typical diner-esque' salad is well... Diner-esque'. The salad is drowned in the dressing and pretty basic. I ordered a Joe's SF omelette (I think that's what it's called) made of spinach ground beef in an omelette with hashbrowns and a choice of toast. It was nothing to rave about really. But I do have to say, my cousin ordered the cod filet and this order was massive. 3-4 cod filets with tartar sauce, mashed potatoes, a side of veggies(corn), corn bread and a salad. I was jealous. I managed to grab a taste and it was good. A little fishy, but good. I did notice that my english muffin was a little on the burnt side. A few hits and misses but it surely deserves a 3 star and up.

I got the pancake combo. It had lots of food at a decent price and was pretty enjoyable. The pancakes were alright, the bacon was crispy, and the over easy eggs were well cooked. Good, not exceptional. I would go here over a Denny's or IHOP any day. Also, weird bathroom.

I came here for a nice family Sunday brunch. We all ordered off the breakfast menu. Now, the food was good, but I must say the waitress was not paying attention or something because she got a lot of our orders wrong. Example: somewhere ordered their omelet with no bacon, to find it filled with bacon. That's not cool. I got the waffle combo with scrambled eggs and cottage fries instead of meat. At most places, I'd expect that if I said NO MEAT they would warn me that the cottage fries contained bacon (WHY?). But no, it was just a surprise. So... not very vegetarian friendly at all! But on the other hand, the waffle was delicious. I like diners, and this was pretty good, except for the service.

This is my very first Yelp review and I'm using it to honor this restaurant, where 100% of the visits I made have had acceptable food at good prices with exceptional service. Unlike some restaurants (Denny's, to name but one) when an item from the menu is listed as a "special" it always has a lower price than normal. Be forewarned this is the kind of food you eat every day and not fancy schmancy restaurant dishes. Pork chops yes, "herb crusted slow roasted Jack Danielle's basted chops" no. Oh, and a big shout out to Kendo and Emily. Nice to see you made it!

Pretty good. I had the lunch special half a sandwich and a salad. I added french fries. Portions were big, food was good. I'll go back for sure!

This is one of those regular geriatric places where you can take grandma or come with your husband and you don't feel out of place. So what that they advertise early bird specials at 3pm! The breakfast is really good and parents aren't afraid to bring their screaming midget's (not meant to be deragatory. That's my term of endearment towards kids) to the restaurant and have them throw food around the dining room and have tantrums at the table. Really no one cares. I love their pancakes. You can get regular old buttermilk or blueberry and they'll even heat up the syrup for you. Great California omeletes and prices reflect the diner atmosphere. Everyone is friendly, service is good and its family run and operated. A great Saturday and Sunday morning breakfast spot.

Great cafe. We ate here before the renovation, years ago. Came to have outdoor lunch in the sun and breeze. Did not dissapoint. Are pet friendly on patio, customer near us brought own doggie water bowl and had a behaved dog. It was a good experience. Chicken sandwich was great, and the. Iced tea. Service was great. Really friendly, nice, polite and did a good job. Thanks for a great experience Emily and Heather! Look forward to next visit!

This place has the best deals on breakfast and meals. The food is pretty good and inexpensive. The biggest turn off: all these old people hanging out here. I'm afraid that one of these days while enjoying my French toast and scrambled eggs I'm gonna have to do CPR or pull out a defibrillator to revive any of these old folks. But the place has good value, excellent French toast, and breakfasts.

I had the BLT. Bland. French fries soft. Coffee tasted like it was Folders. I shop next door at the Fabric Shop so maybe I'll try the breakfast. Not in any hurry. People were very nice.

Great place to take your grandparents. They'll blend right in, the food is really bland - and they have super cheap early bird specials.

I recommend only breakfast here as other people have stated I have found the dinner menu a little on the cafeteria side but the breakfast is another story. The Joe's San Francisco special is some tasty stuff warms my belly, waffles here are to die for, service top-notch for a breakfast place, very nice and the prices are great. This place has been around forever. During the week they have great breakfast specials too many to list.

Weird Flashback place. The first time I came here was right after my wife and I moved to Westminster. We were looking for new places to try out in the neighborhood. We each got burgers and fries. Overall, food was fair, had better and have had worse. Service wasn't bad, although it felt like it was 1975 all over again. Second time was a to go order. I had a salad, wife had some kind of spaghetti dish or something. This time food was pretty mediocre, which is why we haven't been back. Deserts look kinda decent, so might stop in one night if I was craving some kinda pie or something. Who knows.......Maes in Garden Grove is a few notches above.

My husband and I used to come here quite often when we lived in the area. Now I work in the area and went and had breakfast today, just before the 11:30 cut off. I had the breakfast special 2 eggs, 2 bacon and potatoes and biscuits and gravy. Total $4.30 (I did not have a drink) It was so good. The staff and owner are friendly and attentive. I will so go back. Nice job Magnolia Cafe for keeping up the good food and service.

Would be good retro place, but too expensive nowadays - never used to be...

Good food at a fair price. There is nothing flashy or special about the Magnolia Cafe, but it's reliable and reasonably priced. Breakfast is a bargain compared to places like IHOP. For lunch and dinner the french dip, club, and salads are all good. The hot fudge sundae for dessert was extremely generous on the whipped cream and even included 2 cherries!
